An Dara Domhnach den Chaisc 18th April 2020

Encouraging Words

We all need an injection of encouragement. So lets reflect on the two downcast disciples on their way to Emmaus. The future looked bleak; their hopes were shattered when Christ was crucified. When the stranger joined them it was good to share their sadness with him.

But he was no stranger – he was someone who lifted their hearts. It was only when he vanished from their sight that their eyes were opened and they recognised who their companion was.

A few questions: What happens to us when Christ seems to have vanished and no longer walks with us? Are we convinced he never refuses his gift of love? Isn’t he present when a smile breaks through tears and hope is renewed in the heart of another? Doesn’t the most insignificant event speak the language of faith, hope and, above all, love?

In the midst of worries and turmoil, we doubt the sincerity of our prayer, but it is sincere when we can say:

Jesus take me as I am. I can come no other way.

Thought

Even with a Christian outlook, the road can seem long, but Jesus keeps us company every step of the way. He will care for you tomorrow as he cares for you today.
