The Kilcar Cultural Committee present 'Ceol na gConallach’ featuring Roisin McGrory with Paul Harrigan (uileann pipes and accordion), Ted Ponsonby (guitar) and Deirdre McGrory (voice and whistle)

Roisin Mc Grory (nee Harrigan) is from Inishowen Co.Donegal. Growing up in Inishowen, she was exposed to the rich culture of music and in particular to the great fiddle playing of Dinny Mc Laughlin.

In September 2016 Roisin released her debut album 'The Brae Road', a collection of music with strong Inishowen/Donegal influence. The album includes new music composed by Roisin and also works by Paddy Byrne and Simon Bradley. The album has received extensive airplay and has been critically acclaimed for its honest and direct approach to the music.

Roisin is a well known as a fiddle teacher and is a founding member of Inishowen Traditional Music Project. She has lead many collaboration projects for ITMP with artists such as Beoga, Moxie and Dermot Byrne and has recently performed in her own right at Scoil Gheimhridh Ghaoth Dobhair, Earagail Arts Festival and Imbolc Festival in Derry.

Joining Roisin in concert is her brother Paul Harrigan on uileann pipes and accordion. Paul has performed with many bands including Lunasa, Hell Fire Club and Dutch Rock band BLØF. Paul is the director of Ceol na Coille Summer School held in Letterkenny every summer.

Ted Ponsonby is one of Irelands best known guitar accompanists. He has performed and toured with Dolores Keane, Tommy Fleming, Mary Black and Van Morrison to name a few. Ted has recently released a critically acclaimed album with Errol Walsh.

Deirdre Mc Grory is an emerging young singer from the Inishowen Peninsula. She was selected in 2016 to perform with Feis Spe Ceilidh Trail in Scotland and has appeared with youth ensembles Coirm and Inishowen Traditional Music Project.

This outstanding lineup appears at this week’s ‘Ceol na gConallach’ traditional music concert in Áislann Chill Chartha, Kilcar this Saturday, 5th August. Doors open at 8.00 pm and the concert begins at 8.30.
