We expect work on fabricating the footbridge to start in the Spring and hope to have it installed by early Summer 2020. Both the Riverwalk and Footbridge projects are budgeted to cost €87,268.50 in total. Having been allocated €2,500 from Cllr. Niamh Kennedy from the Development Fund and over €2,500 from our Christmas draws we must raise a further €27,905 as our local contribution for both projects. We will be launching our fundraisers soon and we need your continuing support to ensure we can press forward with these and future projects. 

AGM

We held our AGM on zoom last Monday night. Our expenditure for 2021 was €92,951.43 and this was funded by grants and your support for our fundraisers over the past two years.  We have surpassed our fundraising target for the playground by €14,423, €2,000 of this will be retained for future projects and €12,423 will be set aside for future playground costs including; insurance, repairs, maintenance etc. 

With our Footbridge, Riverwalk and Playground, projects underway or completed we must now move forward and look for investment in

1) improving facilities for teenagers

2) creating and improving public amenities and

3) making Carrick a more attractive place to employ people. 

In order to generate major investment in the Carrick Area, it is necessary to carry out a Village Audit to present to major funding bodies.  The AGM passed a motion to commission a Village Audit in the coming year.

Other Items

We hope to open a Tourist Office for 20 hours a week from this Spring.

We will replace the fencing, install a gate and tidy up the football field this Spring.

We will provide additional outdoor seating for the village this Summer

We hope to have the bus stop moved back to its original location before the Summer to reduce traffic congestion in the centre of the village. 

We have plenty ideas for new projects and improvements in the area. Once existing projects are paid for we will be able to move forward with new projects.

You will have seen the announcement of a Village Renewal grant for Carrick. This is great news but we are waiting for the Letter of Offer and clarification of a number of issues before we can formally announce the details. There is no doubt that all the support we got for the Playground project and the Letters of Support sent in for the Footbridge project, were instrumental in the success of the Village Renewal application.
